Celebrating Our Graduates: Excitement for Skills Achieved in Generative AI and Data Analytics

Every season, I feel a deep sense of pride as we celebrate the achievements of our graduates who complete the skillUP coursework. Impacting women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) is a passion of mine. This season is no different, and in fact, it feels even more exciting. Our candidates have successfully completed training in some of the most in-demand areas today: Data Analytics 101, Python programming, Generative AI Practitioner, and Generative AI Programmer. These courses open doors to new opportunities and strengthen workforce development in our community.
Thanks to the generosity of Our Second Innings LLC, these courses are accessible to many returning professionals eager to build new skills and re-enter the workforce with confidence. I want to share why this season’s graduation means so much to me and to all of those who support these learners.

For over 6 years, the Untapped Potential community had benefitted from a partnership with Our Second Innings. Their industry-led coursework is designed to be accessible to all and is facilitated by local libraries. It delivers knowledge from whatever the starting point the learner is at. For example, Data Analytics 101 provides a structured entry point for learners to understand how to collect, analyze, and interpret data. This foundation is crucial for many roles today, from marketing to healthcare.
Python programming is another cornerstone skill in today's technology landscape. It’s widely used in data science, automation, and AI development. By learning Python, our graduates gain a versatile tool that employers value highly.
The generative AI courses—Practitioner and Programmer—are particularly exciting. They introduce learners to the concepts and practical skills needed to work with AI models that create content, solve problems, and automate tasks. These courses prepare graduates for roles that didn’t exist just a few years ago.

What to Expect at the Graduation Event
We are thrilled to invite everyone to join us in celebrating the graduates on April 4th at 10:00 AM, held at the Avon Free Public Library. This event is a chance to recognize the hard work and dedication of all participating learners. It’s also an opportunity for community members and mentors to connect and share stories.
Graduates will receive their certificates, and we will hear from Eleni Kavros DeGraw, an elected member of the Connecticut House of Representatives. The event promises to be inspiring and uplifting for all involved.
Continuing the Journey Beyond Graduation
Completing skillUP training is a significant milestone, but it’s a micro step. Many community members continue to build on their skills through advanced courses, mid-career internships, or job placements. We encourage everyone to stay engaged with our community and take advantage of ongoing support.
