Small Business Powers the Economy.

Did you know:

✅Small business makes up 44% of the US Economic Activity? (SBA)

✅Approximately 99.9% of businesses in the U.S. are classified as a small business? (Zippia)

✅⅔ of new jobs are created by Small Businesses? (SBA)

Small businesses are considered the lifeblood of our economy.

As a career professional that opted out for caregiving (AKA, a Mom) you might not have thought of returning to a small business. What is a small business anyway? The Small Business Administration defines it as an entity that is not dominant in its field and usually has fewer than 500 employees. There are terrific benefits for returning to your professional caliber via small business opportunities.

Want to learn how Small Businesses benefit from Returning Talent? OR learn more about considering Small Business as a path for your #returntowork? Small Business has often become the home for women-returners.

Meet our Speaker for Returning Women to… #SmallBusiness: Catherine Marx, District Director of U.S. Small Business Administration.

Catherine is responsible for leading the SBA Connecticut District Office team and programs throughout the state. They have a mission to advise, assist and advocate for the interests of small businesses statewide. Her efforts strengthen the economy by promoting entrepreneurship as well as small business creation and growth.

Ms. Marx is also responsible for SBA oversight of the Connecticut Small Business Development Center, Women’s Business Center, Women’s Business Development Council, and the six Connecticut chapters of SCORE.

She has 25 years of public service at the federal, state, and local levels. Before joining the SBA, she served the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Census Bureau.

Prior to her role with the U.S. Census Bureau, Catherine not only served various public positions, but she was also a small business owner AND she had a career as a stay-at-home mom (#SAHM)! We are so fortunate to have her unique perspective!
