CCAT hosts group of inspiring women

Connecticut's Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) hosted a group of professionals from mechanical, metallurgical and manufacturing engineers to IT and manufacturing finance resources. The women, all candidates from Untapped Potential, a Benefit Corporation in Hartford, Conn., gathered to learn more about CCAT’s state-of-the-art technology at the AMC.

The group toured the facility after remarks from Candace Freedenberg, founder and president of Untapped Potential. Freedenberg discussed initiatives to recruit, prepare and motivate educated and experienced women who have stepped out the traditional workforce and are ready to re-enter the STEM and other fields. Untapped Potential curates mid-career internships in pioneering businesses thus offering work-place currency to qualified candidates.

The visitors, led by AMC Assistant Director Wayne Sumple, were also joined by state Rep. Liz Linehan (D-Cheshire, Southington, Wallingford) and candidate for CT State Senate Dr. Valerie Horsley. In addition, Marianne Sawicki, Head of Executive Recruiting of Cigna Corporation spoke to the group highlighting the company’s support for Untapped Potential’s model in working towards gender equity in senior roles.
